We, the creators of Represent Oakland, are not interested in name recognition or credit for anything to do with this site. Rather, we are interested in promoting pride for the city that we care about most. We hope that our pride and desire to represent our city can somehow help to spark yours. For a little info about our little band, read the paragraphs below.

I was born in Oakland in 1976. My mother was also born in Oakland and currently still lives here with my father. I thought of the idea of Represent Oakland because it is the one place that I have always thought of as home, no matter where I have been throughout my life. I recently had a couple of things that came up in my life that helped me remember the pride I have for Oakland. First was an excerpt I read about people changing their best friends throughout their lives and really only holding on to a best friend for approximately 5 years. This was something that amazed me, my best friends have pretty much always been my best friends and I have been for them as well. We all have a strong connection to our home town and love to show our pride for the town that we love. The second thing was a boss of mine when I lived in Southern California. He had a hard time understanding why I would want to move back to Oakland. This ended up being a hard thing to explain without resorting to the egotistical attitude that I would commonly bring up with friends. The truth of my description came down to, Oakland is my home, it is where I am from, it is where the majority of my friends and family are and no matter if friends leave or family passes on, it is the place that will always be home to me.

Unfortunately I have not always been an Oaklander.  I found my love for the city about 6 years ago when I began dating the guy above, who is now my husband.  On my first trip to Oakland, he introduced me to Zachary's pizza and Fenton's ice cream and I was hooked. Over the years that we dated, I was fortunate enough to explore a lot of the city that I now consider home.  Some of My favorite memories include trips to the Oakland Zoo, the Montclair Farmers Market and Joaquin Miller Park.  I enjoy trying out new cuisine, especially fun desserts and sandwiches.  I believe that the best sandwich can be found at Genova Deli.  I love wearing Oakland shirts like my husband and can't wait to see more people around town sporting them too!!!

I moved to Oakland at 5 yrs. old and started Kindergarten Downtown near Lake Merritt.  Growing up in Oakland you don't realize how blessed you are with diversity until you travel to other parts of the country and other parts of the globe.  Sights and sounds from The Town are unbeatable.  Sure, I enjoy myself when I visit and live in other cities around the world, but you can't beat rockin' to Kool & The Gang "Celebration" from the bleachers when the A's win in the bottom of the 9th.  Ah the memories...Rickey Henderson, Giant Burger, Dim Sum in Chinatown, movies @ the Grand Lake Theatre, Too $hort tapes, Run TMC gunnin for the Warriors, countless Tacquerias, Jack London Square, Paramount Theatre, A's & Raiders @ the COLISEUM!  Whether you grew up in the Bay or are just getting to know it, I hope it stays in your heart as it has mine all these years (had to go cheesy in the end)...
